Emerging mechanisms of RAM

25/10/2021

Speaker: Dr. Marcos Paulo Vieira Cunha, PANAFTOSA-VPH/PAHO, Brazil.

Live Broadcast: Monday, October 25, 2021, from 13:00 to 14:00 hours from the INFAL virtual classroom (UTC-2 / Etc/GMT+2).

Language: Spanish (without translation to another language).

Modality: Live audio and video transmission followed by questions (via written chat) and answers from the lecturer (via audio and video). The entire course is recorded and is available for later playback on the RILAA distance education portal.

Contents: Antimicrobial resistance represents a major public health problem worldwide. The high selective pressure caused by the use of antimicrobials in animals for human consumption has led to the emergence of multiresistant strains in animal production systems that are transmitted to humans through the consumption of products of animal origin.

Salmonella enterica and Escherichia coli are the two agents most commonly associated with foodborne infections. The objective of this seminar is to describe the emerging mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in these two species, as well as the relationship with certain serotypes/lineages and their detection, differentiation and laboratory characterization.
