Content: Antimicrobials are vital medicines for the treatment of bacterial infections in both human and animals. The misuse or overuse of antimicrobials in humans and animals promotes the spread of microbes that are resistant to initial medicines. The environment, food and direct contact with animals are means of transmission of antimicrobial resistant microorganisms to humans. AMR is an emerging threat and a national integrated surveillance system is key to prevent the development and spread of antimicrobial resistant microorganisms. In this presentation, the INCIENSA from Costa-Rica will share its experience in combatting AMR in an integrated manner.
